judith leiber

Before Judith Leiber came to America where she established a handbag brand loved by First Ladies and celebrities, she lived in Hungary, when she worked at a handbag company and was an expert in European handbag craftmanship. When Budapest became too dangerous for Jews, she had to leave the position because she and her family had to begin moving from place to place for safety. After the war, Judith brought her knowledge to the States “and became a successful entrepreneur, selling bags with her eponymous label in major department stores in the ’60s, when women were just beginning to break down the barriers in the workforce.” An example of resilience, strength, ambition, and entrepreneurship, Judith Leiber received a Visionary Woman Award from Moore College of Art & Design in 2010.
